Par baznīcu
Kurzemes hercogs Gothards Ketlers 1567. gada 28. septembrī pavēlēja celt jaunu baznīcu vecās koka kapelas vietā, romāņu stilā, taču bez torņa. Kurzemes baznīcu tipiskā pazīme – tikai pēc vairāk kā 100 gadiem – 1682. gadā – baznīcai uzbūvēja torni ar piramīdveidīgu jumtiņu. 1876. gadā baznīca ieguva majestātisko staltumu.
Sabiles baznīca ir ļoti īpaša, jo šeit atrodas baznīcas zvans, kas ir vecākais lietais zvans Latvijā. Tas ir liets 1450. gadā un joprojām iezvana svētvakarus savā dobjajā un skanīgajā tonī, kas dzirdams iztālēm aiz Sabiles gravām.
Arī Sabiles baznīcas kancele ir vecākā Latvijā, ap 16.-17.gs. Kanceli rotā balustri – nelielas apaļas kolonnas, nišas, maskas, pītas lentes, medaljoni – renesanses motīvi manierisma stilā. Šī kancele ir vecākais saglabājies luterāņu baznīcas koka priekšmets Latvijā.

Par pilsētu
Sabile pirmoreiz minēta 1253. gadā, pilsētas tiesības kopš 1917. gada. Pilsētas vēsturiskais centrs ir 15.-19. gs. pilsētbūvniecības piemineklis. Vairākas teikas vēstī, ka Sabiles pilsētas nosaukums cēlies no ripojoša zvana skaņām. Ordeņa laikos Abavas labā krasta nogāzē atradušās vīnogulāju plantācijas un Sabiles vīns sūtīts pat uz ārzemēm. Tagadējā Vīna kalnā pirmie stādījumi ierīkoti no 1937. līdz 1938. gadam pēc vīnogu audzētāja Paula Gailīša iniciatīvas ar prezidenta Kārļa Ulmaņa atbalstu. Sabiles Vīnakalnu var uzskatīt par Sabiles simbolu arī Sabiles ģerbonī ir attēlots vīnogu ķekars. Sabiles Vīnakalns ir unikāls arī ar to, ka tas ir ierakstīts Ginesa rekordu grāmatā, kā vistālāk uz ziemeļiem atrodošais vīna dārzs, kur brīvā dabā audzē vīnogas. Kalna virsotne atrodas apmēram 34 metru augstumā virs pilsētas un Abavas līmeņa. Abavas vārds laika gaitā nav daudz mainījies. Jau 1745. gada kartē un vēlāk upe minēta kā Abov. Tikai 1928. gada kartē parādās Abava. Abavas garums ir 129 km, kritums 51 m, baseina platība 2042 kvadrātkilometri. Tecējuma ievērojamā daļā (no iztekas līdz Rendai) Abava plūst pa pirmsleduslaikmetā izveidojušos senleju. Tās posmu starp Kandavu un Sabili ainaviskā krāšņuma dēļ sauc par Kurzemes Šveici.

About the church
On September 28, 1567, the Duke of Courland, Gotthard Kettler, ordered the construction of a new church in place of the old wooden chapel, in the Romanesque style, but without a tower. A typical feature of Kurzeme churches - only after more than 100 years - in 1682 - a tower with a pyramidal roof was built for the church. In 1876, the church acquired its majestic grandeur.
The church of Sabile is very special because the church bell is located here, which is the oldest cast bell in Latvia. It was cast in 1450 and still rings the holy evenings in its hollow and sonorous tone, which can be heard far beyond the ravines of Sabile.
The pulpit of the Sabile church is also the oldest in Latvia, around the 16th-17th centuries. The pulpit is decorated with balusters – small round columns, niches, masks, braided ribbons, medallions – Renaissance motifs in Mannerism style. This pulpit is the oldest surviving wooden object of a Lutheran church in Latvia.

About the city
Sabile was first mentioned in 1253, city rights since 1917. The historical center of the city is the 15th-19th centuries. century urban planning monument. Sabile Vīnakalns is also unique in that it is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the northernmost vineyard where grapes are grown in the open air. The top of the mountain is about 34 meters above the level of the city and Abava. Abava's name has not changed much over time. Already on the map of 1745 and later, the river is mentioned as Abov.
